The Right Step For Ross

February 18th, 2012

Just finished my second charity site for a great cause titled The Right Step For Ross. A few finishing touches to be made but I hope it gathers momentum and everything works out great for Ross. The site can be seen here http://therightstepforross.co.uk/

Averaged out on 72 for my first semester in my masters so pretty pleased, now onwards with an HTML5 app and Object C coursework.

Fixing This Blog

January 31st, 2012

Fixing the blog is going to be of top priority this week. It’s sadly a phantom mess and has been for a while since it went through the twisted changes of my site structure alteration.

First semester over

January 30th, 2012

Well first semester over and it was pretty hardcore but still great. I thought I’d struggle having taken the year out and built up a bigger portfolio of clients but I managed it. Around the exam period I found myself working from 8am to 11am on work and reports and I had my first day off since Christmas last Tuesday! The day off was good, played some Skyrim till I felt guilty and returned to reading books for uni however it was still a well needed relaxing day.

I’ve updated the website a little and still have a few more changes to add (HTML5 section & brochures misc part). Not sure when I’ll get time to finish the updates though sadly but I will try and squeeze it in soon. Currently got two large projects on the now in codeigniter (amazing) and another large Flash to Canvas conversion… then two sites lined up and a site for a friends band and more HTML5 stuff and on and on. The coffee is starting to lose effect so I best stop for the night and get a few pages of A Short History of Nearly Everything (also amazing) in.

Recently finished working on the Glasgow Euro Systems company website which can be seen here: Euro systems – IT Support and computer leasing UK. Building the site and working for both Eddie and Dean was good fun and I hope to pick up further future development work from them.

Currently working on some random outsourced material and three larger websites, two of which I’m building up with wolfCMS again. The third site which I can’t go into much detail right now is being built using the PHP framework Kohana.

Still doing the usual SEO for Aabsolute Self Storage – Glasgow Storage and sister companies as well as their new company Soctch logs Scotland – Firewood in Stirling Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Started my postgraduate masters this week as well in Advanced Computer Science… busy times.

Work – love it.

August 22nd, 2011

Recently I’ve started to get in touch and work with quite a few companies and individuals with extremely different backgrounds and requirements. I’ve always always always enjoyed my time so far freelancing and working in multiple web languages and creating different things. However recently the variety and mix of projects completely different from one another has properly made me realise how lucky I am to have managed to get into my field of work. Recently just finished off a wolfcms site with an ecommerce end as well over at http://www.scotchlogs.com/. Scotch logs – Firewood Scotland has been great fun making (was even asked to get some of my drawings into it). Unlike quite a lot of firewood sites the information is clear and bold with a nice vibe given by the site appearance. Now it’s on to the SEO side of things for the site.

And oh yeah, this time next month I’ll be in my masters course doing Advanced Computer Science… *gulp*.

Wolf CMS – Heroic.

August 1st, 2011

Wolf CMS, by far one of the best content management systems I’ve had the pleasure of using. Can be grabbed from here: http://www.wolfcms.org. It’s a pretty lightweight system that allows for rapid development but it is so damn simple interface wise on the eyes that it has easily became my favourite CMS. Recently finished building Scotch logs – firewood Scotland with it. I’d highly recommend, another overall benefit with the simple interface is that your clients will be able to navigate around the backend easily without feeling overwhelmed.

Well, well, well.

This part of the site has started to gather dust, in fact so has quite a bit of my portfolio. Haven’t updated nor posted latest portfolio additions for quite a while now HOWEVER that is all about to change. Tail between legs I can hang my head in shame and admit I failed in keeping this blog up-to-date. With that sad yet obvious news out in the open it’s about time we moved on and got back on it. So it gives me great pleasure to announce that the Beakable Blog will become content rich and have regular updates. In the mean time, here is my latest Photoshop drawing… Rabbit Zombies!

Beakable Blog back up.

January 9th, 2011

Still needs finished to fit in with the the new site design (along with other parts of the site) but touched up enough to get it back up anyway.

Been major busy with life, work and also my side HTMl5 project http://glacialflame.com/ which by the way is coming on great. Now using HTML5 web sockets, decent amount of multiplayer interactivity, AI with path finding and so on. Hoping to have a video up soon showcasing how far along this project has come.

Anyway enough of this, got to get back to work after sticking the kettle on of course. Oh and got accepted into Strathclyde Univserist for my 5th year masters in Computer Science. Woah woah.

Haven’t updated this blog for quite a while and it’s the same old excuse sadly :( . Work. I have quite a number of portfolio pieces to add but really should get back to this BCG stuff, however… Over the last week or so I’ve been working away at this in bed: http://www.beakable.com/projects/photoshops_and_drawings/untitled. It turned out quite good I think, though could have been better but still perhaps my next drawing I’ll actually be completely happy with! (doubt it).

Anyway will get some of my latest stuff up some point this week once the emails stop coming in for a few minutes. Also planning on picking up Glacial Flame again in the next month with a video of the current state coming soon.

Craig and myself have been ploughing through Canvas now and are getting on pretty well with our canvas game Glacial Flame.

The image shows a current building tile set as well as a mock user interface.  As we are developing Glacial Flame we have been writing up posts on achieving results yourself within the world of Canvas. These posts include guides and code on Measuring FPS with Canvas and Building a Particle Engine with Canvas. Our next post will be covering how to save and load data as XML from a database to Canvas which should be pretty helpful to someone!
